Objectives of Provost of environment and community service

- Strengthening the links between M.I.S.T and members of the Ghanaian community.
- Provision of services to various groups in society.
- Expanding the membership base to M.I.S.T.

ECS Programs

ECS’s programs and activities have characteristics that qualify them for excellence without any competitor.
Some of these characters: 
1 Enjoying the enormous benefits of the Institution.
2 Incubate the university to a constellation of faculty members outstanding scientific and practical.
3. All programs are accredited.
4. Low cost of the program compared to other institutions.

Beneficiaries of ECS’Programs

The concept of community service and continuing education asserts that people need lifelong learning regardless of age, gender or educational level.
The beneficiaries of the programs of the ECS for Community Service and Continuing Education are: 

1– Individuals wishing to develop their expertise and acquire new skills.2.   Staff who need to improve their functional and practical status.
3 - Holders of university degrees who wish to receive training in other disciplines.
4 - Holders of secondary school certificate but are to enroll into auniversity. 
5- Those who prefer education on theirown or who are not suited to the normal means of    education for health, economic,geographical or labor needs.

General framework

1- Preparation of plans and programs to facilitate M.I.S.T.’s role in community development.
2- Establish and manage specialized units which provide service to non-students and contribute to the development of M.I.S.T.’s resources.
3- Prepare and implement training programs for members of the community, using  modern technical and scientific methods to raise their productivity and efficiency and develop the community resource-base of M.I.S.T.
4-  Organize conferences, scientific seminars and lectures which aim at community service and environmental development.
5- Development of M.I.S.T.  Facilities.
6- Documentation of  environmental Impact and follow-up on environment issues and challenges confronting M.I.S.T. and how to address them through:

a- Internal environment assessment and record of halls, laboratories, faculty offices, aeration, noise, gardens, solid waste, and the environment around M.I.S.T.

b-  Preparation of an environmental assessment and record the related environmental data including:

·   Energy consumption
·  Water consumption
· Liquid and solid wastes and wastes management
· Health risk of students activities
· Occupational safety, hazards and health procedures

c- Organize workshops on the environment and its importance and maintenance and extend the service to the local community to harness M.I.S.T. Service to the community.

d-  Assessment of environmental issues in the community and finding suitable scientific solution to the challenges, working in close cooperation with administrative authorities

e-   Support research that adopts non-pollution production methods in collaboration with Institutional Research, Innovation and Development (IRID), and School of Engineering.

Facilitate the establishment of an environmental energy, water and sustainability program at M.I.S.T.

Location

We are strategically located at Lakeside Estate in Eastern Accra. It is one of the fastest growing communities, quite, and close to everything. We are few meters away from the Marina Park and East Legon. We allow campus tours at your convenience.

Provost of Environment and Community Service (ECS) helps M.I.S.T to achieve one of its most important functions, 
community service.

It aims to build bridges between M.I.S.T. and society and build community partnerships in which M.I.S.T.’s energies and resources are invested in meeting the needs of society through the planning and implementation of a variety of educational, training and community programs.

The ECS would earn the trust of many members of society and governmental and private institutions that are involved in community development activities.

The provides vital services to the community to develop the skills of its members and institutions to increase its ability to serve;  coordinates the services provided by M.I.S.T schools, scientific departments and units and develop and expand these services to impact positively on the lives of different groups in society; seeks to identify the needs of institutions and bodies that plan and implement economic and social development programs in the community, and strengthen links between M.I.S.T. and those institutions; and to provide opportunities for faculty members to learn from and study about societal realities. So M.I.S.T. lives the reality of society and not in isolation.

Continuing education offers the opportunity for a continuous education system that emphasises self-education, which has an impact on the individual and society, and provides the opportunity for members of the community to receive education regardless of age, culture or profession.

This trend comes in line with the general objectives and policies of M.I.S.T.  in various development plans that have adopted  

A set of programs related to the main tasks of M.I.S.T.:
1. Education, 
2. Scientific Research and  
3. Community Service.

Objectives of Provost of Environment and Community Service :

- Strengthening the links between M.I.S.T.  and members of the Ghanaian community.
- Provision of services to various groups in society.
- Expanding the membership base to M.I.S.T.

To achieve the objectives, it is necessary to develop strategies based on several elements, notably:

1 Uniqueness of its programs both in the quality of the program and in the methods of its implementation, taking advantage of the capabilities and services provided by M.I.S.T.
2 Evaluating the programs provided to activate their positive aspects and rectify their shortcomings to improve them.
3 Benefiting from the experiences of public institutions in the fields of training, rehabilitation and development.
4. Preparation of information and data bases for the educational and training processes of the ECS's centers.

This is done through the following:
1 Practice of activities without adherence to age, level of study, or functional.
2 Practice of activities through the organized programs of rehabilitation or study or training, and the holding of seminars and programs aimed at meeting the needs of different sectors of society.
4 Use of all means and sites that allow identifying the needs of the community, and investing all the available resources at M.I.S.T.  to meet these needs.
5. Implementation of the program shall be entrusted to a person or team through or outside M.I.S.T.

Provost’s Bio

Professor Hassan El-kady is the Provost Environment and Community Services of the Institute.
Prof. Hassan Fared EL-Kady was the first President of the Madina Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) since August 2014 to January, 2017. He is a Professor of Landscape Ecology and a former Head of Botany and Microbiology Department of the Faculty of Science, Tanta University, Egypt. He was awarded Dr. rer. nat.  by Technical University of Berlin, Germany in 1987.             

Prof. EL-Kady research interest is in the areas of Range Management, Ecosystems Analysis, Phytosociology, Maintenance of Wildlife and Environmental Pollution. He has taught extensively and supervised research in these areas since 1974. He has successfully supervised ten (10) Doctorial and eighteen (18) Masters of Science theses, attended numerous conferences and training programmes in his field and has thirty-seven (37) publications in international journals to his credit.

Prof. EL-Kady is a member of the Egyptian Botanical Society, the Arab Biologists Union and the International Federation of the Environment.

Facility maintenance Management

Objectives:
1. Contribute to achieve the objectives of the General Administration of utilities in the use of modern technologies in the field of general maintenance
2. Develop an integrated system that includes programs for the maintenance of facilities and general maintenance of the University City, and programs for the restoration of buildings and facilities and classrooms for the continuation of efficiency and performance of high quality.
3. Preservation of the buildings and facilities of the university and its aesthetic form and the surrounding environment.
4. Attracting qualified human and technical craftsmanship, and qualified to carry out maintenance work, to keep pace with the expansion of urban development in the university.

Energy management Center

We burned fossil fuel for power generation and changed the composition of environment. The heart of this outcome requires that we reduce much of fossil fuel consumption and start using new and renewable energies to diversify our energy resources.

The development of the community is the process of building a strong and distinguished society in many different and varied areas by strengthening and empowering the members of the society by providing them with the things they need so that they can achieve the skills, sciences, knowledge, life, scientific and practical experiences, Perhaps the capital capable of achieving and building special projects for each member of the community has great abilities and potentials and creative and productive ideas.

Specialised Units

The general objective of these centers and units is to activate the role of M.I.S.T in solving the problems of society and contribute to development issues, in addition to other sub-objectives that can be summarized in a comprehensive manner in conducting specialized studies and database formation, providing technical consultations and designing programs and projects for national bodies and bodies. Technical problems, supervise the implementation of projects, participate in the development of the abilities and skills of individuals and the preparation of cadres through the organization of training and training courses, and participate in raising awareness and dissemination of culture through the holding of conferences and seminars.

Research support Center

Studying applied research plans that are carried out for external parties according to their needs so that the results of this research can be marketed and utilized.

Criteria and rules for applied research

1- Priority for research on sanitary drainage / desalination.

2 - Priority for research involving a number of young researchers in colleges and institutes.
