History
Madina Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) was established in 2013 by the Madina Foundation for Science & Technology (MFST); a not-for-profit entity incorporated in 2010 to provide quality tertiary education to individuals who aspire to acquire and advance knowledge of science and technology. The Foundation, since its inception, has established several basic and senior high schools, including one solely for orphans. The Directors of MFST see the establishment of MIST as a logical capstone to their efforts at providing quality but affordable education to the youth of Ghana and beyond and also contributing to the development of their community.
The Institute commenced operation with three schools: School of Engineering, School of Business and Technology, and School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a Center for Professional Development. The Institute envisages establishing a Language Center and an Islamic Banking Center in the near future. Building on its heritage as an Islamic Institution that upholds to traditional Islamic values and ethics, MIST purposefully integrates the highest academic and professional standards of excellence in teaching, research, and community service in its training.

At MIST our understanding of diversity is broader than normal, emphasizing the identity and experiences of groups that have been historically under-represented in higher education, which may encapsulate age, class, culture, physical challenges, ethnicity, gender, national origin, race, and religions, among others. We affirm that diverse experiences enrich classroom and campus experience of all. Therefore we build and nurture a community that embrace, respect and celebrate diversity in all forms.
Admission Policy
Admission to programmes at MIST will be based solely on qualification according to the requirements as outlined by the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), National Accreditation Board (NAB) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
No applicant will be discriminated against on grounds of ethnicity, religion, or other non- academic considerations.
Successful candidates must, however, be willing to subject themselves to the rules and regulations of the Institute, which in the main, are in conformity with the tenets of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.
As an Islamic faith-based Institution, morality will be held high and infractions bordering on drunkenness, use of banned substances/drugs, indecent dressing, stealing, fighting, etc will not be countenanced at the MIST.
PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE
Lecture Halls
There are four one-storey blocks for the four faculties. Each faculty block has four spacious lecture halls with large marker-boards and provided with equipment for power-point presentations. Each lecture hall is well-lit and well-ventilated. There are enough offices for all faculty staff in each block.
Administration Block
The Administration Block Complex, currently under construction, will be ready for use by January, 2015. It will have enough office accommodation for all MIST Registry and Administrative staff.
Hostels and Canteens
Two of the four proposed hostel blocks have been completed and are ready for use. Each of the hostels has a canteen at the basement for the use residents. The canteens will be managed by skilled and experienced caterers to ensure that students are served with hygienically prepared meals. Management will ritualistically monitor the running of the canteens to ensure that students get value for their money.
The Madina Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) is a new tertiary educational institution scheduled to take off in September, 2016. The Institute has already received a CERTIFICATE OF AUTHORISATION from the National Accreditation Board (NAB), granting it permission to start the Accreditation process. MIST is affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)
MIST is an off-shoot of the Madina Foundation of Science and Technology (MFST). The MFST was registered to, among other things, establish and run educational institutions at various levels in the country for Ghanaians and students from other African.
VISION
The Vision of the Madina Institute of Science and Technology is to be a leading producer of competent technical and managerial graduates who will form an integral part of Ghana’s development process.
MISSION
The Madina Institute of Science and Technology shall provide affordable quality tertiary education to its students with the right moral training, through a conscious and systematic exposure to research and activities in the corporate world, to complement their academic work to ensure that they graduate with appreciable level of information and practical experience they can put to use immediately after graduation.
OBJECTIVES
The Madina Institute of Science and Technology is being established not only to open up more opportunities to the teeming qualified youth who are unable to get admission into the state established universities(especially for applied science programmes), but also to train them to serve in their communities and nations with selfless dedication.
EDUCATIONAL STRATEGY
The training in MIST is going to be service-oriented and a lot of emphasis would be put on practical work.
The Foundation is engaging highly qualified academic and administrative staff and is also making available the most modern and up-to-date teaching and learning equipment and materials in all faculties to ensure that in their drive to realise their potential and achieve self- actualization, the students would find nothing lacking.
Faculties would ensure that students undergo at least, two extensive supervised industrial/practical attachments during their studies at the MIST. Marks scored by students during the attachment will form an integral part of the grading system and will be taken into account in the computation of their final grades for graduation.
Faculties are further encouraged and resourced to bring practitioners from industry, commerce and business, etc to lecture the students to enable them have the feel of how things are done in the corporate world.
MIST is establishing a very strong Research Unit which will be adequately resourced to enable Faculties and students engage in research to create and add to knowledge. Final year students will only be presented for graduation after they have finished their project works which would have been duly marked by both internal and external assessors. The project work would be accorded credit units equal to those of two courses.
Finally, Management will ensure that lecturers and students of MIST undertake outreach programmes within the Institute’s environs and, if necessary, beyond. Workshops and Seminars will be organised for the general public on important topical issues. The Departments of Nursing and Engineering will particularly be very useful in this regard. The Institute’s clinic will be open to the general public.
