Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships

M.I.S.T is committed to granting equal opportunities to students who qualify to pursue programs at MIST, regardless of their financial resources. In that regard and through the benevolence of MIST and grants from generous individuals and organizations, MIST awards significant need-based financial support to qualified students.

Students eligible for financial aid will be granted full or partial financial support to cover their tuition fees, text books, housing, and meals. Scholarships are awarded to students who apply for it prior to their admission to MIST. For continuing students opportunity for financial support is highly limited.

Financial Aid Policies
The Office of Financial Aid and scholarships has set policies and standards that students are required to adhere to. These policies include:

Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible for financial aid and/or scholarship students must meet all the requirements listed below:
· Must be enrolled full-time (i.e., they must be enrolled in three or more courses) at MIST in an academic program leading to the award of a degree.
· Must be a Ghanaian citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
· Must come from a low income and middle income family and demonstrate financial need.
· Must maintain satisfactory academic progress in the selected course of study.
· Must not be in default on a student loan or owe a repayment on a student grant.

Note:
Students should apply for financial aid at the time of applying for admission;
· The Scholarship Committee will determine the award on the basis of demonstrated need and the strength of your application;
·  Any family that cannot afford the full fees should complete a financial aid application form and turn it in with their admissions application and supporting documents (e.g. bank statements, pay slips, utility bills, medical bills and any other relevant documentation).
· You will also need to accompany your application for financial aid with a letter justifying why you need financial aid.
· The more information you can include to support your inability to pay the full fees, the easier it will be to process your request.

Retention Requirements
Students must maintain at least a 3.0 CGPA and full-time enrollment status during the first and second semesters, in order to retain their award.

Selection Process
The selection process is done in three steps: First, based on a set admission criteria and applicant’s overall profile, the Admission Committee determines who should be given an offer of admission to pursue a program at MIST. Next, once a candidate is deemed qualified for admission into a program, the applicant’s application for financial aid is passed on to the M.I.S.T Scholarship Committee (MSC) for review. The application is reviewed on the basis of documented financial need and upon a thorough assessment by the MSC of all information gathered during the admissions process for each candidate. Finally, successful candidates are issued with an award letter, spelling out the quantum of the financial aid and the terms and conditions.
